Christmas is now well and truly upon us and you are most probably thinking about all the Christmas Parties that you have been invited to. For most of us it is the first Christmas Party that we are attending in person since before Covid. However, some of you might be dreading the festive season as all your fitness goals that you have set yourself and that you have worked so hard towards to, might be compromised by all the temptations that come with the festive season. But there is nothing to worry about if you follow a few simple hacks, that I have put together for you. The goal is that we can still enjoy the festive season and celebrate all the great work you have achieved. The last thing anyone should be feeling is guilty (far too common in fact), really you should be enjoying your time. However on the flipside, its good to minimise the damage and keep up some good habits so when you do resume your routine in January, it doesn’t feel like you’re starting again from square one. That is no joy at all – believe me I have been there many times in the past.
Festive Hacks:
- Manage expectations – you are way more sedentary than normal plus surrounded by more eating/drinking activities so don’t expect that you will be losing weight/toning up. Cut yourself some slack!
- Keep moving – Try to incorporate movement as much as possible through the your day. Instead of sitting in front of the TV and rub your full belly, maybe go out for a little walk. Walk on the spot while brushing your teeth or park your car further away and walk into town to do your Christmas shopping.
- Keep training – Set yourself a mini challenge go to the gym for a 20 min workout, little jog or home workout with some bands before you consume anything. The goal here is not to have the best workout but it’s simply to keep a good habit going. And honestly you will feel like such a boss for getting a sweat on before wholeheartedly enjoying the rest of the day/night.
- Eat Smart-ish – If you wanted to do 1 genius thing that would make a huge difference without sacrificing on your joy. It would be: THE VERY FIRST PLATE of each meal FILL IT with salad/veg and protein. THEN do whatever you’re about to do after. But that foundation of nutrients is everything!
That is all. If you do these things when you come back in Jan you will be ahead of the game already as well as being charged up and ready to break through all your resolutions!
